REVIEW of my World Of Sound album on 4Clubbers portal
Timo Garcia’s one of dance music’s good guys. The Londoner has been DJing for over 15 years, putting in the hard graft across the capital’s dancefloors, and travelling the globe wherever his music box takes him. In a career that’s taken in gigs from Ibiza and Brazil to Russia and India, it’s his production career that’s propelled him into the forefront of the UK house scene with releases on Nervous, Yoshitoshi and VVWI. And his artist album, Wonderlust Bug, in 2009, was further proof of the upward curve.
So where do you go when house is in your veins? The answer, in 2011, is leftfield. Under a new moniker – T Mo – and on Deep East Music, comes Timo’s own take on downtempo. With the release of World Of Sound, fourteen tracks that span the range of blissed-out, sunset-drenched electronic music that shows a different side to his character and ploughs a new furrow in an expanding production career. It’s been done many times, but from the opening of New Beginnings insistent keys and rasping snare, it’s full of purpose and attention to detail that shows it’s more than by-numbers beatless house music. Carrying on through Scintillate’s wistful slow-mo section soundtrack, and piano-led atmospherics in Pyjama, inviting the listener into the gap between asleep and awake, there’s real feeling behind the music, with the energy and poise of his house music very much in evidence.
There’s some interesting variations through the entire album, from Wireless’ lullaby-like soothing eastern tones, the dubby, urban decay of Youth, crackling with life that’s far from any chill-out compilation’s usual cast of characters, while Morph’s late-night haziness echoes trip-hop’s roots. Closer World Of Sound is a playful mesh of sampled vocal, undercut by waves of percussion and bleepy melodies, aptly exploring another of the many sides of the genre, proving that behind Garcia’s house pedigree, there’s a real musician driving his work forward. Long may this continue.

This reminds me a lot of the days of the good trip hop in Cafe del Mar.

Brilliant piece of musical exploration, from deep dub-grinding beats to the loftiest Balearic vibes! Timo launches into the realms of down-tempo with grace and precision. One of the best chilled deliveries of 2011

I'm just listening to the album now, there's loads of cool, atmospheric music of there (Thujone is the pick of the bunch on first listen). The production is, as expected, excellent too. This is definitely going to be in the bag for my sunny summer laid back gigs.
